Welcome!

Thank you for visiting Turquoise Valley Golf, Restaurant & RV!

ImageOur back nine opened to the public in January of 1999.  Combined with our historic front nine (1936 in its present location, 1908 originally), we fairly well bookend the 20th century!  Not only Arizona's oldest continuously operating course, but our back is still one of its newer ones as well.  Laid-out by resident pro, Dick Atkinson, the back nine offers clever integration into its surroundings and a nice contrast to the more traditional layout of the front. Although challenging, the back nine are generally short holes, with one glaring exception: the 747 yard, par 6 hole known as, "the Rattler."

The Longest Golf Hole in Arizona, the Rattler possesses many distinctions for its prodigious

length.  It is also:

Longest Golf Hole in the Old West / Southwest

5th-Longest Golf Hole in the United States (Tie)

10th-Longest Golf Hole on the PLANET EARTH (Tie)

One of only a handful of Par 6's in this World and the Only Par 6 in Arizona...

(correct as of June 2008)

Turquoise Valley has been universally praised for great greens and excellent conditions. Perhaps a testament is that we are the only one of Cochise County's golf courses to merit inclusion in Arizona's Greatest Golf Courses, by Bill Huffman. Averaging $50 or less, you will see why the 18 holes of golf here are considered among the best deals in the state!

Copies of Arizona's Greatest Golf Courses may be purchased at the Pro-Shop, but they move quickly.

Mr. Atkinson is available for golf lessons at $30.00/hr. Contact the Pro-Shop.

History

ImageTurquoise Valley is considered Arizona's oldest continuously operating golf course, founded in 1908 and built in nearby Warren, Arizona. In 1936, as a WPA project, the clubhouse was moved to its present location and the development of the current site began. The "Warren District Country Club," as it was still known long after moving to Naco, began as a 9 hole course played twice from different tee boxes for a total of 18 holes.  The "back nine," a true desert course, was officially opened in January of 1999 with the first TVGC Pro-Am. Designed by Richard Atkinson, it features a par 6, 747 yard 15th Hole, the longest in Arizona... "The Rattler!" Much like our contrasting-yet-complementary nines, Turquoise Valley has been acclaimed both "user friendly" and "challenging."  While our infamous 1st Hole has been called the Toughest in Cochise County (SV Herald), Turquoise Valley has also been named one of the Top Ten Beginner-Friendly Golf Courses in ALL of the United States (National Golf Course Owners Association of America).  We've got the goods to satisfy "weekend hackers" and "low handicappers" alike.

Peter and Leslie Lawson took over the course in 1997 and have made many improvements, aside from adding the back nine. The clubhouse has been completely refurbished, the pro shop restocked, golf cart fleet upgraded to electric and the staff has been doubled to ensure every guest is well received.

At an elevation of 4,600 feet, our course is playable year round and offers a summer climate 10-15 degrees cooler summer than Tucson -and even cooler than that compared to Phoenix. This makes for an ideal spring and summer get-away for desert dwellers as well as comfort for our winter visitors. Many generations of Southern Arizona golfers have played this course and enjoy the peaceful setting of the lush desert valley, blue skies and surrounding mountains.
