Fall 2011

Written and sent to Members first, made available to the Golfing Public

As promised, here's the follow up to your most recent newsletter.  We're sure the New Rates are of interest, so let's start with our Fundamental Product: Golf.  In GREAT NEWS, not only are we pleased to announce that for four consecutive years, we will have given our Members NO MEMBERSHIP INCREASES; and further, this year we have REDUCED our Golf Memberships!

Here's how it works: the 2012 Turquoise Valley "RECESSION BUSTERS" Membership Fee Schedule!
                                                   1 Person   Couple
Annual…………………………………………........ $1,200    $1,800
Quarterly………………………………………....... $  400     $  600
Annual Membership, Paying Monthly*    $   125    $  200
*must commit to 12 consecutive months of payments

Cart Rental will be $10 per Cart ($5/ person when you share, but $10 when a single requests a key).

Those few who play "so very much" that cart expenses might become a concern should consider purchasing a cart and renting one of our sheds.  Much as we agonized over this one (the electricity is killing us), Cart Shed Fees will remain unchanged for 2012: $80/Quarter /Gas Cart and $90/Quarter/Electric: $320 or $360 a year depending, and NO subsequent trail fees.  Yes, 2012 brings the advent of our Trail Fee system: $2/Cart/Round for offsite carts.  "Offsite" means any cart not stored on the golf course in one of our rental sheds.  A mere pittance, quite fair!

Annual Members will continue to receive 14 days advance booking privileges, with 13 days for Quarterly Members.  We hope all appreciate this Membership Rate Reduction.  If so, feel welcomed to show it by supporting food and beverate operations, where costs have jumped and margins are thin!  Gosh we have some wonderful food here!  We believe we've established ourselves as an organization dedicated to delivering fine quality products at as reasonable rates as possible.  We aim to continue that mission, but need our customers to support us by shopping locally as you can, here, in the Restaurant and in the Pro Shop.  As always, we need the trend to start with our Members and frequent golfers as the Leaders, setting the tone.

IMPORTANT NEW MEMBERSHIP BENEFIT
Effective immediately, Turquoise Valley Golf Memberships include all minor children living at home (18 or younger, still in high school)!  Talk About a Bargain!  If this program works to bring in new members, it might even offset our ever-rising costs for next year.  So what are you waiting for?  Spread the news!  Golf courses are going under all around the U.S. and unfortunately we can now add nearby Santa Rita to that list: an unforgettable site in Tin Cup, so sad!  Exclusive, high-dollar courses will predominantly survive our current economic alert.  It is the individually-owned, available-to-the-masses options that are being optioned out.  So go out there and bring more people into the fold.  Tell the coming generations of "Membership Material" golfers about this new benefit and continue to keep your golf course serving yourselves and the community.  With our THANKS!

On to the REST of the NEWS…

From GROUNDSKEEPING: because of more crazy weather --great rain, but not according to "plan," plus hail-- Aeration wasn't as smooth as prior years, but we finished it and started Overseeding on schedule!  We'll be Cart Path Only for the full eighteen through October but looking and playing great for the winter!

A Quick Survey for you:
1) On Fairway Cuts, do you prefer:   A) a Straight Cut;   or   B) a Contoured Cut?   Feel free to email your response to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , deliver it in person, or to our suggestion/comments box.

In the RESTAURANT, the cooler weather will return soups to our Specials Board!  The later tee times of the months to come provide opportunities to enjoy our breakfast menu, where our steaks continue to find new fans!  One new customer told us we need to specifically market them and that he'd gladly pay a dollar more for the "Eagle" entrée.  The addition of our Green Chile-&-Tomatillo Sauce to our famous Red Sauce as "Enchilada Style" option is also available for breakfast.  Next cold morning, try your breakfast burro under a blend of green chile and tomatillos for a zesty, tangy and yet surprisingly mild, new dimension of flavor.  As hinted, the Winter Menu is coming soon, though we'll still welcome your suggestions for our Spring Edition!

For the winter and the HOLIDAY PARTIES it brings, know that though the larger events tend to reserve far in advance on the weekends, WE'RE WILLING AND ABLE to book events Sundays through Thursdays, and sometimes even Fridays for more intimate gatherings of 20 - 50 people, too.  Ask for Morgan!

Our coming MUSIC PROGRAM should be strong.
Sunday, OCTOBER 30, there will be a multi-band Halloween party featuring: Train Wreck; Partners; Thunder Mountain; Dan Simonis & the West Texas Millionaires; and Rockus.  It's a benefit for Train Wreck drummer, Frank Bloise, who has been diagnosed with a particularly virulent-sounding strain of cancer.  $5/person donation at the door gets you a fantastic afternoon of music, 12noon - 5pm!  100% of the proceeds go to offset Frank's medical expenses.

In better news, we're thrilled to announce that Arvel Bird will make a return performance Friday, NOVEMBER 25, the day after Thanksgiving.  Those who have seen this amazing performer know the power of his shows.  This time, his lovely wife & manager, Kimberly Kelley, will be a more active vocal performer, filling out a facet to his incendiary performances that has only been hinted at before.  December 30, Bonnie & Ted will guide us on a musical and dance-filled journey in honor of New Year's Eve's… Eve!  Mark your calendars for ALL THREE Special Events!

From the PRO SHOP, TEE TIME SWITCHES are subject to outside forces, but scheduled for OCTOBER 11, (7:30am) & NOVEMBER 14, (8:30am).  Please make your tee times as specifically and accurately as possible, particularly over holidays. Don't forget the dates we warned you about last letter.  Whether we weren't expecting you on a busy day and have to force you in among golfers who don't complement (or even compliment!) your game, or we can't accommodate you at all, or we lost a foursome or more of daily fee golfers because "someone" over-reserved their tee times, it hurts.  …As always, THANK YOU!!!

If you have SUGGESTIONS for our website, or anything else, such as upcoming Long Drive Contests, Ladies Clinics, or techniques for turning non-golfers into casual golfers and casual golfers into frequenters, let us know!

Last, check out our YARDAGE BOOKS!  Of COURSE the first round printing contains boo boos that will make them collector's editions.  I think the company expected that and so made it a short run!  Rather than make people wait until Christmas, they're out now and Members are welcome to pick up a free copy, Pro Shop will track.  Public pays $3.  Please support the many businesses listed as, without them, Valley Yardage Books wouldn't be possible.

Thanks to Dick Atkinson for providing us with a photo per our request of the last newsletter.  ESPN and their contestants were so pleased with Turquoise Valley's performance in the Regional Tournament that chances are good we can get it back!  This is GOOD!  Please consult our website calendar for events, as we're recommitting ourselves to keep it current and accurate.

Please know you have our hearts, appreciation and blessings for the many ways in which you support us.  Our tip of the day is, if you find yourself golfing under adverse conditions, such as rain, or the odd hurricane-level winds… don't forget that your life is in danger: Come on in and warm up!

THANK YOU for who you are and what you do!  From your Staff-Family at Turquoise Valley!
